A recycling expert has created a house made completely from waste.
Angus Carnie has created an eco-home that looks like a traditional Scottish log cabin using a whole list of recycled materials. The outside of the log cabin was painted with a “special mixture containing waste toner powder”, and the efficient insulation was created from waste printer bottles, while the worktops used plastic hospital bed sheets that are normally incinerated at “great cost to the NHS”.
Inside the cabin, the walls are made from fast food packaging, which has the advantage of being light and waterproof, needing no maintenance. Outside, fencing has been constructed from broken pallets, and Carnie has followed the theme of “I used to be something else” throughout the dwelling. In the kitchen the units are made from “damaged confidential waste bins” and the furniture includes a whisky barrel and orchard boxes.
There are also coasters made from electronic waste and lights made from jars, as well as an electrical cable wheel made into a coffee table. Energy is provided by solar and wind power, and there is a water filter system for the rainwater, as well as an eco-waste system.
