An article looks at how MPS can offer a more ‘green’ outlook.

Monster Technology reported that most businesses today have corporate social responsibility (CSR) protocols, and that because of this more consumers value companies that are ‘green’, with a good start for new businesses is to look at their print environment. In a recent survey by CompTIA, “a non-profit association for the technology industry”, 900 executives from the “US and Canadian IT companies” were interviewed and 50 percent said that their “print volume was moderate to very high”.

A resolution for this could be MPS, which could help to lower the carbon footprint of businesses by making sure that the print fleet is energy-efficient, and MPS “relies on ENERGY STAR devices” that can often save energy with “sleep modes that conserve power”. It was reported that 81 percent of offices “have recycling bins near their printers”, and this is a good start, but MPS can actually give “real-time information about consumption practices”.

This allows the business to make adjustments to operational practices that could save “paper and toner”, and also have “print limits”, while MPS also provides an “easy option for recycling used toner cartridges, saving raw materials and preventing toxic waste from ending up in landfills”. Most technology is made of plastic and other materials that can be recycled, but often are not, but an MPS partner “partner handles end-of-life logistics for your printers, making sure that out-of-service machines are properly disassembled and diverted into proper waste or recycling streams”.

To prevent the waste of paper and ink, most MPS providers offer duplex printing and other tools like “toner saving mode, monochrome printing”, and offices should have a “think before you ink” policy. The article concluded that MPS can reduce “print-related waste by as much as 81 percent”.
