The OEM is set to sell its PC business for $850 million (€801 million) to Lenovo.
Tech PP reported that after the sale of its printing business to HP Inc, it now appears that Samsung is in talks with a leading PC manufacturer Lenovo with a view to selling its computer and laptop business.
In 2014 Samsung followed Sony’s lead and discontinued its PC and ChromeBook business, after which it re-entered the market and launched the Notebook 9 series of ultra books earlier this year, but sales appear to have been down “despite […] excellent hardware”, and now the company “appears” to be selling up its PC business.
A South Korean report disclosed that the “talks with Lenovo to sell the PC business” have been going on for a while, and lawyers are acting for both sides, Paul Hasting International representing Samsung and Freshfields Burckhaus Derringer representing Lenovo. Talks are said to have “made little progress” despite the price being lower that the sale of Samsung’s printer business.
The OEM chose the largest business in the market to sell its printer business to, the site stated, and now it appears that it is doing the same with its computer business as Lenovo is a leader in that field.
