Giovanni Ravelli, President of the association, told The Recycler that the “slogan” for the association is ‘LASER and INKJET cartridges for a CLEAN and SUSTAINABLE market’, adding that “this year we highlighted this claim on the front desk of our stands during the Big Buyer Fair in Bologna. This Italian city, famous for ‘tagliatelle’ and ‘tortellini’, is also the perfect meeting place, being located in a favourable area for roads that intersect in the north centre of our nation”.

At Big Buyer, the association met to analyse “the various situations on the market and for proposing actions to be taken together to meet them”, with Ravelli adding that “thanks to CAM (minimum environmental criteria) for printing consumables, the attention and demand for environmentally friendly cartridges increased together with the request for product that comply with the quality and durability standards that we promote with our companies specialised in building remanufactured products”.

He continued: “The work done started to give back some fruit and – therefore – our mission to commercialise printing consumables reusing OEM empties, remanufacturing and reconditioning them in the respect of the patents, was reaffirmed. The relationship with the Ministry of Environment will continue, and there will be other meetings on those topics that have been the subject of confusion and that require clarifications or improvements after the first period of adoption and implementation in public tenders.

“We decided to better communicate our initiatives and proposals that are in the wake of the circular economy, which encourages the reuse of products which may prolong their lifecycle. We will start to use the main social media tools available (Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and more); we will make a study of the Italian market with the advice of an expert economist and prepare a ‘green paper’ on printing consumables, that would be our professional contribution to sustainability and to the recovery and reduction of electronic waste, as the printing consumables are.

Additionally, the association renewed its positions, with Katun’s Marco Terracini remains treasurer, Armor’s Enzo Mietta remains secretary, and Ravelli President. The association is also “made up of eight representatives: four Italian members and four European companies”, and it is expecting to add “two new Italian companies in the near future”.
