The National reported that amongst the fake goods there were more than “two million counterfeit branded printer inks” seized last year, and in total 16,000 fake goods were seized in Ajman this year. The goods were smuggled into Ajman and stored in warehouses in the industrial area of the emirate.

Brigadier Sheikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuami, Commander in Chief of Ajman Police, said that “the country that exports [most] counterfeit goods is China, then Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. For the Arab countries, they come from Syria, Jordan and Egypt”, and also reported that 147 people had been arrested for “trading or smuggling” since the beginning of the year.

He further commented that “merchants either put the original goods in the front of the container or distribute the fake ones in several containers in case one of them is seized, the rest can be entered”. The Recycler has previously reported on the problems of counterfeit cartridges and the fact that the demand in the UAE is “not shrinking”.
