Ink cartridge packaging discussed

Dec 19, 2016

A video shows a disgruntled printer cartridge user who rants about the packaging OEMs use.

The replacement cartridges...

Frank Romano berated OEMs, in particular HP Inc, for their packaging of cartridges in a video on What They Think. Holding up the cellophane, the safety clip from the cartridge and the cardboard box, he claims there must be a better way.

Romano said that the waste was not environmentally friendly and that he knew why the OEMs package the way they do, “it’s to stop the refilling of the cartridges by others”, but “maybe if they were cheaper others would not be trying to refill them”. Romano commented that he returns all his cartridges to the OEM and gets discount on his new ones, but asks: what about the waste he recycles, shouldn’t he get a refund on that too?

He also noted that Epson have refillable tanks, and that is much easier for consumers and probably cheaper, and pondered why HP Inc cannot do the same, although he maintains he loves his HP Inc desktop printer. Romano concluded by saying “printers of the world unite and save the environment and my sanity – work on a better way to package cartridges and cut down on waste”.
