The Conseil Européen de Remanufacture, or European Remanufacturing Council (CER) was first announced last March, and aims to provide a “coordinated voice from the leaders of remanufacturing businesses and organisations”. It began accepting applications for membership” after being “officially announced” in May, and is part of the European Remanufacturing Network (ERN) and the EU’s Horizon2020 project, with the objective of “becom[ing] the focal point for remanufacturing policy dialogue in Europe”.

The Centre for Remaufacturing and Reuse (CRR) reported that the CER will be “officially launched” on Friday 27 January in Brussels, noting that its initial aims are to “raise policy maker awareness and understanding of: the characteristics of the European remanufacturing sector; the issues it currently faces; and, its potential as an important component of the circular economy”.

CRR added that the council is set to be “an industry-led, subscription-based non-profit organisation based in Brussels”, with the launch event featuring keynote speeches from circular economy pioneer Professor Walter Stahl and ERN partner Dr. Nancy Bocken. The CER also announced the event itself, stating that “€30 billion of remanufacturing is carried out in Europe annually” and “represents two percent of manufacturing output in the relevant sectors”.

It went on to ask “which new policies could achieve five percent growth and create more industrial jobs? China’s 13th five-year plan sets ambitious growth targets for the sector. Come to our event and hear why a new business-led council with global ambitions is needed”. The event takes place from 9am to 2pm at the Stanhope Hotel on Rue du Commerce 9 in Brussels.
