The Kiwanis charity group have collected 12,662 cartridges to help UNICEF prevent Tetanus.
A press release announced that Piet Smit and Ed Bink, members of the Kiwani organisation – whose motto is “Serving the Children of the World” – organised fundraising by collecting used cartridges and old phones. UNICEF’s STOP Tetanus campaign helps prevent thousands of new born children dying from the disease every year.
The course of Tetanus vaccinations costs €1.32 ($1.62) for the initial injection and then €0.44 ($0.49) for the other two. Supermarkets in the Netherlands have cooperated in the collections which have been a great success and Smit said “we are really delighted with this huge number”.
Last year, Monique van der Ven, Ambassador of UNICEF in Archeon, received a cheque for €1,000,000 ($1,058,985) for the campaign.
