This is the seventh consecutive year that the company has been awarded the Environment Minister’s Awards, and this year the manufacturing plant at Kyoto Ayabe was awarded for its global warming prevention activity, and for helping to develop the “residential use solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) co-generation system”.

The awards are presented every December in Japan to coincide with Global Warming Prevention Month, and have been running since 1998. The OEM was nominated by the people of Kyoto Ayabe, where its factory is based manufacturing organic packages and printed wiring boards, and was recognised for its use of clean energy using solar panels on the roof of the factory, and for introducing energy efficient machinery as well as using waste heat recovery units.

The company also promotes teaching the community about environmental issues and gives “Eco-Lessons” to local school children. The second Ministers Award was given to Kyocera for its technology development, and was received for its use of SOFC co-generation system and ENE-FARM Type S “which was jointly developed with Osaka Gas Co., Ltd, Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd., and Noritz Corporation” launched in 2016.

The company prides itself on its philosophy of 57 years, which states “harmonious coexistence and a commitment to social responsibility and environmental protection”, and is working to achieve the Kyocera Environment Vision 2020, which is aimed at management of the environment and sustainable growth with sensitivity to ecology and economy. Every employee takes a pledge to have their own environmental plan in the workplace, and the company gives them a “Summer Eco-Challenge” every year in June.
