The cartridge recycler has been approved as an authorised treatment facility (AATF) under WEEE regulations and will work from a new warehouse in West Sussex.
The UK based cartridge recycler will operate from its new warehouse, which covers 35,000 square feet and is on a two-acre site in West Sussex, after it was recently accredited by AATF.
BCMY Ltd treats printer cartridge waste and the accreditation means that it will now be able to “increase the volumes of waste through its designated collection facilities (DCF) and producer compliance schemes (PCS)”, which will enable the waste to be treated and reused, as well as “taking the non-reuse cartridges back to their raw materials”, offering a 100 percent zero-to-landfill recycling solution to “waste handlers, producers and other AATFs who don’t offer a “treatment service for this waste”.
The reuse and recycling of printer cartridges has been classified as WEEE since 2016, and BCMY now being registered AATF “can issue evidence notes to PCS schemes”.
Simon Gilchrist, Managing Director of BCMY, said: “We are very pleased to be accredited as an approved authorised treatment facility (AATF). We started the preparations more than a year ago, so that we can meet all the requirements of a waste treatment facility according the Environment Agency standards. Our main priority will continue to be the recycling for reuse of as many printer consumables received into our warehouse.
“Where reuse is not possible non-reusable cartridges can be processed through our specialised recycling facility to turn them into their raw material form, such as plastic, aluminium and steel. This service will allow waste handlers, producers and HWRCs to fulfil their WEEE waste obligations and duty-of-care quickly. The service offers complete transparency with auditing and itemised reporting”.
Jason Doran, Business Development Director at BCMY, added: “With our new AATF status we can now offer our unique services to household waste recycling sites (HWRS) and develop a stronger cooperation with producer compliance schemes (PCS). This will allow us to showcase our advanced environmental methods by meeting the WEEE recovery and recycling targets, so we can continue to win the trust of new clients for our main services ZeroWasteRecycling.co.uk and Recycle4Charity.co.uk”.
