The office retail company is said to be leaving the two countries to concentrate its efforts on North America.
Market Watch reported that Staples is planning to sell its business in Australia and New Zealand to Platinum Equity, the price has not been disclosed.
Shira Goodman, Chief Executive, Staples, said in a statement: “As we execute our plan for long-term growth we want to focus primarily on our Staples’ North American business, and this will allow us to better [to] do that.”
Staples shares rose 0.8% to $8.64 after hours.
