Remanufactured cartridges discussed

Apr 11, 2017

An article talks about the benefits of remanufactured cartridges on the environment.

Dubaria reported that remanufactured cartridges are made from recycled cartridges that were OEM and have been “reprocessed and then refilled” and then sold as “environmental friendly cartridges” or “recycled cartridges”.

These cartridges are remanufactured by “reputable companies” whose standards are monitored and the cartridges perform “as well as, or better than” brand new ones and also come with a guarantee that their performance will equal or exceed that of the originals and will not cause damage to the consumers printer. The article noted that “antitrust legislation prohibits copier and printer manufacturers from voiding their warranties when remanufactured toner cartridges are used in their machine”.

During the remanufacturing process the cartridges are taken apart and all parts are scrutinised and in some cases replaced, these include the “drum, corona wire assembly, wiper blade and roller” after which the cartridge “cleaned, refilled and recycled”. Recycling can be carried out several times.

These cartridges are cost effective, usually “30 to 60 percent less” and save money and some manufacturers will pay for the return of empty cartridges or credit the consumer on their next purchase. It was also noted that recycling is good for the environment as millions of cartridges are prevented from going to landfill every year and the toxic materials can take a thousand years to breakdown so reusing them reduces toxic waste and pollution as well as conserving natural resources by reusing old materials.

Another benefit is that energy is saved because remanufacturing conserves energy as a cartridge made from new will use three quarts of oil to produce. The article concluded that recycling cartridges is not only cost effective but also a way to be green and help the environment.
