HP and Cartridges for Planet Ark’s free cartridge recycling programme in Australia have reached 10 million with none of the collected cartridges being refilled.
ITwire.com reported Cartridges for Planet Ark’s (C4PA) recycling programme was created in 2003 with HP as a founding member. It is a free collection programme for consumers to recycle their printer cartridges with a zero-waste-to-landfill commitment.
Brad Grey, head of Campaigns, Planet Ark, said, “Planet Ark aims to make recycling as easy as possible for consumers and businesses, which is why we work hard to ensure that all Australians are in easy reach of a collection point- in all Officeworks and JB HiFi stores, as well as participating Australia Post outlets. Workplaces can also be collection points. Every cartridge dropped into a C4PA box is processed with a zero waste to landfill guarantee – a great result for the environment.”
Explaining the concept in more detail the article points out that “Returned cartridges are not refilled – recycled cartridge materials are turned into various products, such as pens, rulers, picnic tables, even asphalt.“
