Staples names CISO

Staples named Brett Wahlin as its first ever Chief information security officer (CISO).

SC Media reported that the previous vice president and CISO of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Brett Wahlin has been announced as Staples first ever CISO.

He will “report to Chief Technology Officer Faisal Masud who heads the retailer’s new Digital Solutions segment.”

In this newly created position Wahlin will not only “cybersecurity tasks, but also several not normally assigned to a CISO, such as product development connected devices, fraud and loss prevention”.

Chief Technology Officer Faisal Masud commented: “Brett has nearly 30 years of experience leading large enterprise information security architecture, policy, operations and development,” And continued: “The security of both our customers’ and Staples’ data is critical, and we’ll look to Brett to bring his knowledge of the latest security standards and best practices to the role, as we continue to evolve into a digital-first company.”

Wahlin previously worked for Sony Network Entertainment and McAfee, and he began his career as a counterintelligence agent for the U.S. Army.
