Remote workers beneficial to business

May 25, 2017

An article discussed the benefits of remote employees to business.

Business.com reported that todays technology makes for more productive employees when working from home and that this can benefit business in several ways. It was noted that working from home showed a higher productivity rate as there were fewer distractions and no travelling which meant that the employee was more relaxed. The article also said that working nine to five showed peaks of productivity but that focus dropped at certain times of day but because of the flexibility of working from home employees could structure their day around productivity.

Remote workers were found to have more job satisfaction especially millennials who “value their work-life balance more than any previous generation” and that businesses offering work from home retained talented employees which saved money on rehiring and training while overheads were less due to being able to work from a smaller office and cutting energy bills and equipment.

It was also noted that working from home is more likely to see less absence from work as people are more likely to work through minor illnesses and that this also prevented infecting the rest of the workforce.

Employing remote workers means that businesses have a larger talent pool to chose from as they can be in any part of the country and that using professional networks made it easy to advertise while interviews could be done by phone or skype etc.

Concluding the article said that while this sort of employment may appear risky it does show employees that they are trusted and to test the waters businesses could do trials of one or two days a week before making it a permanent arrangement after which the results could be evaluated.
