There has been a small growth in the shipments worldwide as the market grew 1.2 percent year-on-year.
IDC reported that there had been moderate growth in the Hardcopy Peripheral Market (HCP) with over 23.4 million units shipped in Q1 of 2017 according to IDC’s tracker and that it looks positive for inkjet and laser printer shipments as the YoY progresses increasing by 2.2 and 2.1 percent respectively.
IDC noted that Epson led the top five HCP companies on 5.6 percent with HP Inc following on 3 percent and Canon and Brother behind on 0.6 percent while colour inkjet printers had a “YoY growth of 89.2 percent in unit shipments” which was fuelled by growth across IDC’s eight regional markets and ranged from 50.5 percent to 248,6 percent.
Epson continues to improve in the inkjet sector due to its five L series models enabling them to achieve 6.9 percent growth YoY while HP Inc’s growth of 3 percent was due to its “strong performance in China” where the company has expanded its “tier three channels” which captured business from SMBs.
