Disposing of old printers

Jun 22, 2017

An article discusses the best ways to “get rid of printers”.

Business New Daily reported that just like other electronics printers cannot just be thrown out and that illegally dumped e-waste can lead to large fines but more than that toxic chemicals and materials will poison the land and the air and take hundreds and sometimes thousands of years to decompose.

The easiest way is to find a store that recycles old printers or go to an e-waste collection centre or drop-off site. Another option is to contact the manufacturer of the printer as they may have collection facilities and “take back programmes”.

Old printers can be donated if they are still in working order and schools and community centres or charities may be happy to receive one and even if not in use some schools will take them for technology students to work on.

Donating to “electronic outreach programmes” may benefit students in developing countries and there are also manufacturers that work with these and recycling programmes that will take old printers like the Dell Reconnect Programme which is a partnership with Goodwill.

Those printers that are in good condition and working can be sold on and there are many sites on the internet that will give cash for printers although social media is also a good place to sell and free. If the printer no longer functions there are still places that will give some money for them for instance repair shops.

Old printers really can have another life cycle.
