The International Data Corporation’s latest report shows good news for HP Inc. in a strengthening market.
A new report published by the International Data Corporation shows that the worldwide hardcopy peripherals market grew by 1 percent year-over-year in the third quarter of 2017. The Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker reveals that in Q3, shipments reached nearly 25.3 million units, and that compared to the year before, inkjet units saw a 4 percent growth, although the laser market declined 1.2 percent year-over-year.
The Tracker is designed to provide market data on the hardcopy peripherals market, encompassing SFPs, MFPs, and single-function digital copers. It is drawn from data provided by vendors, distribution channels, end-user and segments.
In Q3, HP Inc. was the world’s top company in the hardcopy peripherals market, with shipment growth up 3.3 percent to 9.7 million; it beat Canon and Epson into second and third, with the two OEMs posting year-over-year growth of 0.6 percent -1 percent respectively.
The report shows that Brother was left in fourth position, yet with superior growth to the top three, of 3.9 percent. Samsung, meanwhile, was fifth-ranked in the world but posted the highest growth figures of the top five companies, with year-over-year shipments increasing by 6.5 percent.
Away from company specifics, the IDC also revealed that business inkjet shipments grew by 3.3 percent year-over-year, reaching approximately 2.5 million units in Q3, with inkjet MFPs making up 90 percent of that.
Both the laser and inkjet markets were shown to be in rude health in the Asia/Pacific region (not including Japan), with inkjet posting a year-over-year growth of 4.4 percent, and laser growing by 10.5 percent compared to the third quarter of 2016.
