California undergraduate student wins prestigious award

The Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) – the “Heisman Trophy” for the top undergraduate student business owners – held its 2007 California regional competition on the campus of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

The First Place winner of the California regional competition was David Fan, CEO of Inkjet Remix Corp. http://www.inkjetremix.com. Fan is a student at UC San Diego and his business Inkjet Remix sells ink and toner over the Internet. Inkjet Remix offers savings to consumers by sellilng remanufactured and compatible cartridges. “I am excited to win the award for California and look forward to competing in the GSEA Global Finals in Chicago this November. The day was awesome and I received some great feedback from the entrepreneurs that judged.”

The GSEA program, which has attracted over 500 nominees from the US, Canada, China, Australia, Spain, Mexico, Sweden and Puerto Rico, provides recognition to the undergrad who is balancing the pressures of a full college workload alongside the pressures of running a growing business.

The competition had a unique twist with live presentations to a panel which included members of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization such as Gerry Morton, University of Arizona Alumni and CEO of Energy First http://www.energyfirst.com/. Each participant had 20 minutes to present on their business, sales growth, mission and obstacles overcome. The judges then asked questions to dig deeper. Following the presentation, the judges scored each student and provided a sheet of feedback and mentorship on how the student could improve their business.

Second place went to Daniel Negari, founder of Beverly Hills Mint and a student at USC – who will also be representing California at the GSEA Global Finals. Lucia Pereda of Inland Empire Autobody & Paint placed third.
