PrintVillage Sensient collaboration

Dec 10, 2007

PrintVillage, a distributor of US Sublimation branded wide format dye sublimation inks and papers, has announced a strategic manufacturing and distribution agreement with Sensient Imaging Technologies.

Under the terms of agreement, Sensient will provide PrintVillage with advanced research and manufacturing capabilities aimed at developing innovative specialty inkjet products for the dye sublimation market. PrintVillage will focus on the development of a distribution network with technical support services and training for its dealers, independent technicians and end users. PrintVillage will also function as Master Distributor for new and existing Sensient Inkjet products and will provide existing Sensient customers with equipment solutions, technical support and customer service.

“After years of selling specialty inks to the US market through private label distributors, the time has come for Sensient’s products to have an official presence in the US marketplace,” says Martial Blanc, Marketing Director for Sensient Imaging Technologies in Switzerland, adding “Our new partnership with PrintVillage will allow us to take a step forward and guarantee that our innovative technologies are properly applied and supported.”

“This is a natural evolution of a long and friendly relationship,” says Michael Labella, Product Manager for PrintVillage. “For years now, Sensient has been a reliable partner by not only maintaining the highest manufacturing standards, but by helping US Sublimation to stay up to date with new technologies thanks to their investments in the latest manufacturing processes and technologies.”

Dye sublimation is a process by which ink is infused into a synthetic substrate, typically polyester, through heat and pressure resulting in sharp images with continuous tone, and rich, vibrant colours that will not wash off or scratch easily. The process works on a variety of poly-based or poly-coated substrates such as fabric, ceramic, glass, films, woods and metals.

Typical end users printing wide format dye sublimation are manufacturing custom products such as flags and banners, sports and entertainment apparel, trade show displays and signs, custom textiles, casino gaming tables, surfboards, skateboards, snowboards and ceramic tiles. Popular in Europe for many years due to its eco-friendly nature, the US market has just begun exploring the possibilities of digital dye sublimation and is quickly expanding, particularly in the fields of custom sportswear manufacturing, trade show graphics, flags and banners.

With the advent of direct-to-textile printers such as the US Sublimation Velotex, also distributed by PrintVillage, dye sublimation is now becoming increasingly popular with flag and banner manufacturers that are looking to produce double sided flags in one step while eliminating paper waste. The collaboration between PrintVillage and Sensient Technologies Corporation will address the growth in these rapidly developing markets.
