Xerox has opened a new research facility in India that will develop computer systems for emerging markets and contribute to solutions and services delivery.

The Xerox India Innovation Hub is based in the city of Chennai and will bring together Xerox scientists and engineers with leading Indian academic institutions, research labs and industry partners.

The research will aid the company’s expertise in imaging, data mining, smart document management, linguistics and ethnography. This also includes trends such as cloud and web computing, human computation, social networks and computational economics.

Xerox Chief Technology Officer and President of the Xerox Innovation Group Sophie Vandebroek said: “Creating a research facility in India allows us to make use of local knowledge and to extend that expertise to our global initiatives.”

Director of the Xerox India Innovation Hub Meera Sampath said: “Linking the talent in India with Xerox’s 500 scientists at our centres in the US, Canada and France will allow us to leverage the power of truly global innovation networks and engage in cutting-edge research.”

Xerox will also open a Xerox technology showroom near its India headquarters in Delhi. Indian customers and partners will be able to view the latest technology developments from Xerox research centres around the world. It will also support the Xerox Innovation Group’s Customer Led Innovation program and help researchers in India learn more about local customer needs and challenges.
