LaserCycle wins new sustainability award

Jun 11, 2010

The Johnson County Solid Waste Management Committee has developed over 30 green initiatives for a company to fulfil. If the company achieves 20-29 of these they receive a gold award, and over 30 results in an emerald award.

To get the programme moving, LaserCycle’s Operations Manager Sean Burns explained that the committee contacted companies it knew that were already selling and promoting green products.

As a printer solutions company, we sell a product called grenk, it is the first zero land fill guaranteed toner and ink cartridge for the printing industry, said Burns.

He believes that this is “what sparked the Johnson County Solid Waste Management Committee to contact us”.

Even though this is a non-competitive event, Burns says that it is still very challenging to get to the gold and emerald level. He explains that LaserCycle has an internal green team that focused on the gold level.

Burns added: “I believe when we first sat down we had already accomplished 15 of tasks. We evaluated the remaining 15-plus programmes and strategically looked at what five we could accomplish. The [green] team was then tasked to finish the remaining five.

“Through some trials and tribulations we were able to get 20 tasks checked off. We had to then turn in our information along with a one-page essay explaining our programmes.
