The “What goes around comes around” campaign, part of the HP Planet Partners Program, provides a free recycling service for original HP cartridges. Recycled plastic from the collected cartridges will reportedly be used to produce new HP cartridges as well as other products.

According to the Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Corporate Support Services Sector, Mohammed AbdulKarim Julfar, Dubai Municipality has become the first government department in the emirate to work with HP Middle East in an environmental initiative.

He said: “Dubai Municipality has always been in the forefront in any of the attempts that helps save the environment by reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfills.”

General Manager for HP Middle East’s Imaging and Printing Group, Amin Mortazavi, said: “We are happy to have Dubai Municipality on board in our most important environmental initiative aimed at saving the planet from huge amount of technology waste.

“As per the Planet Partners Program, HP has installed a number of empty cartridge collection boxes in different organizational units in the Municipality. The turn-around time for delivery and box collection is five working days.”

HP Planet Partners Program is a free service available in over 50 countries, regions and territories. 265 million units of inkjet and HP LaserJet cartridges have been collected through the programme so far.

The OEM estimates that 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions were avoided through HP’s recycling activities in 2008. To date, HP has recycled 1.71 billion pounds of electronic products and supplies.
