Lyra forecast report sees increase for inkjet printer sales

Sep 27, 2010

Lyra’s Hard Copy Industry Advisory Service has released four new reports analyzing the inkjet and laser printer markets, and predicting the potential trends for the next four years.

Inkjet sales are predicted to rise to around 64 million by 2014, a 13.8 percent increase from 2009.

Colour laser devices are also expected to gain sales, although facing strong competition from inkjet and MFP devices. Lyra sees strong potential for SOHO and small workgroup devices.

On the other hand, monochrome laser printers are predicted to continue to fall in sales. The report also examines possible causes such as the negative impact of the economy, MPS and the move towards sharing MFPs.

Impact printing is also analyzed, although Lyra says they play a “minor role” in the overall market.

Larry Jamieson, Director of Lyra’s Hard Copy Industry Advisory Service, said: “The good news is that the monochrome and colour printer markets are rebounding.

“However, shipments of these devices will not reach pre-recession levels because managed print services engagements, WiFi network installations, and mobile devices with greater functionality will change printer deployment patterns.”

The four reports, titled Ink Jet Printers and All-in-Ones: Worldwide Forecast, 2007–2014; Monochrome Laser Printers: Worldwide Forecast, 2007–2014; Color Laser Printers: Worldwide Forecast, 2007–2014; and Impact Printers: Worldwide Forecast, 2007–2014, are available for $940 each.
