The company, based in Freeland, Maryland, collects cartridges from Southern York County School District and York’s city government. Penn-Mar Ink collects used inkjet and toner cartridges for remanufacturing, and then repackages and sells them at reduced rates.
After placing collection boxes in different spots throughout the school, the company managed to collect over 1400 cartridges. “Many of the clients are former students of ours,” Wayne McCullough, the district’s business manager, said.
For every cartridge the district purchases, the remanufacturer donates $1 for inkjet or $2.50 for toner cartridges to the district’s scholarship foundation.
The company says that it is often ‘30 to 50 percent cheaper to buy from Penn-Mar’, which meant that its sales to the school district have saved the educational authority around $2,000 over the past few months.
