Two plants in Thailand are closed off after heavy flooding.
Severe floods in Thailand have resulted in two of Canon’s inkjet printer factories shutting down production, reports Amateur Photographer.
The Canon Hi-Tech factories in the city of Ayutthaya have been rendered inaccessible, with one of the plants suffering flooding inside its facilities.
Thailand has been suffering through its worst floods in decades after a particularly heavy monsoon season began in July, causing more than $3 billion in damages.
In a statement to Amateur Photographer, Canon said: “Canon Hi-Tech (Thailand) Ltd which produces inkjet printer products has two factories in Ayutthaya (one in Rojana Industrial Estate and one in the Hi-Tech Industrial Estate), both of which have been affected by the flooding.
“The Rojana factory has suffered flooding inside the facility. The Hi-Tech Industrial Estate in which the first factory is located is surrounded by an embankment which has prevented the estate being flooded.
“But due to an excessive amount of surrounding water, access to the factory is currently not possible. Both factories will be closed until Friday 14 October. Beyond that we will decide what action to take, based on conditions at the time.”
The closures may result in supply problems in the region if the issue is not resolved soon, alongside many other industries that have been badly affected by the floods. Camera manufacturer Nikon, which shares the Rojana estate with Canon, has reportedly had its factory “submerged”, while automotive companies including Honda and Nissan have also faced problems.
