Canon launches new 12-ink A3 printer

Oct 25, 2011

Canon has launched a new flagship printer for its popular Pixma range – the first A3 machine to use 12 separate inks, according to Techradar.com.

The new Pixma Pro-1 is designed for extremely high quality colour printing, with the use of 12 inks enhancing its colour gamut.  Five of the cartridges are monochrome inks, enabling the machine to offer professional levels of black and white photo printing.

Further increasing its use for professional photo printing, the Pixma Pro-1 is also able to support an input resolution of 1200ppi, which Techrader notes is twice that of previous Pixma models.

In terms of printing, the machine uses a new Optimum Image Generating (OIG) system to analyse photo colours and calculate the optimum combination of ink for the best results. The Pro-1 is also said to feature improved accuracy with a printhead that features 12,288 nozzles.

The printer is also notable for its extremely high ink capacity. Alongside feature 12 separate inks, it also has an ink tank capacity around five times larger than the nearest model, and has been designed to run for a long time between ink changes.

The Canon Pixma Pro-1 launches next month from around £799.
