Cartridges 4 Planet Ark joins empty collection programme.
Cartridges 4 Planet Ark (C4PA), a cartridge collection scheme operating for over eight years, will be partnering with materials recovery company Close the Loop to bring free collection points for televisions and computers throughout Australia, reports The Age.
The National Television and Computer Product Stewardship Scheme will be funded by television and computer manufacturers, while C4PA undertakes promotion and environmental oversight and Close the Loop provide physical recycling.
Brad Gray, Head of Campaigns for Planet Ark, commented on the involvement of printer cartridge companies, citing their corporate responsibility and environmental commitments although coming at a price: “It means they’re carrying a cost that their competitors aren’t.”
Stephen Bell, Marketing Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Lexmark International, commented: “The C4PA scheme has been fantastic for our industry. It’s given us a constant brand to engage the market with and we’ve built up a really broad collection network, which is a key component of its success.
“[Customers] want to deal with responsible partners and suppliers and over time, it’s become one of their buying criteria. We now work with our customers to meet their own corporate social responsibility targets.”
