Skimmer replica, which scans account information and pin number, created using 3D printer despite protection measures from banks.
A sophisticated card skimmer was removed from a Chase Bank in West Hills, California, with police believing a 3D printer may have been used to create it, reported Gizmodo.
Card skimmers are devices that are placed over card reading slots and can read account information and PIN numbers using minute cameras and sensors. Despite the green bulbous card slots being designed to deter card skimmers with its unusual proportions, the skimmer “perfectly fits over the ATM’s regular slot”.
A pinhole camera is located to record PIN number entries, while the mechanics are suspected to have been salvaged from mobile phones due to the retrieved skimmer’s wireless capabilities.
