OEM collaborates with Tokyo Steel Manufacturing for the construction of MFPs, in a bid to curb usage of limited global resources.
Ricoh has announced a partnership with Tokyo Steel 
Manufacturing to develop multifunction printers (MFP) that utilise electric furnace-made steel sheets typically created for construction work, reports Vision & Trends.
Most commonly a construction material, the collaboration is stated as ensuring that the steel possesses the quality and features required for use in manufacturing office equipment, including thinning and electrical conductivity.
The first models are due to be released in 2012, and mark the first time electric furnace-made sheets have been utilised in office equipment.
The OEM stated that “if we are to continue using limited resources into the future, we need to start using steel sheets made of steel scrap and produced in electric furnaces for all possible applications”.
