Independent cartridge remanufacturer speaks of benefits

Small business owner Jim Milligan talks about his cartridge remanufacturing business and benefits of reusing toner cartridges.

Jim Milligan of Harrisburg, Illinois discusses how he has adapted his business, Milligan’s Office Machines, to “go green” by remanufacturing and reselling toner cartridges at discount prices, reports Christy Stewart for the Daily Register.

Although the business previously focused solely on repairing printers and photocopiers, Milligan recognised the potential in remanufacturing and reselling printer cartridges, and has been doing so now for 25 years, with the business reportedly selling 1,500 cartridges so far this year and continuing to grow.

Speaking on the notion that the remanufactured cartridges “work just as well” as original cartridges but are cheaper to buy, Milligan highlights how reusing cartridges can also prevent millions of used cartridges from being thrown away, commenting “if you’re throwing them away you’re just filling up the landfills.” He also states that most toner cartridges can sometimes be refilled with ink and reused “up to five times.”

Milligan sells the remanufactured cartridges at a 20 to 40 percent discount compared to original products, as well as providing a two year warranty. His business also involves a recent charitable pursuit as Milligan collects empty cartridges brought in by customers and donates them to schools in Harrisburg, who then send them to organisations that pay the schools for the empty cartridges and remanufacture them for reuse.
