Ex-Cartridge World employee opens new cartridge retailer in seaside resort town.
Richard Pateman has spoken with The Recycler regarding the forthcoming opening of his new independent cartridge retailer store in Bognor Regis following an extensive period as a Cartridge World employee.
Pateman spoke on his decision to branch out on his own, stating that “I’ve got 10 years of experience [in the industry] and I thought I’d open up my own business, do it myself.”
World of Inks is expected to open on 24-25 August, with the store currently awaiting stock. The livery for the store exterior and delivery van has been prepared in advance. Bognor Regis was chosen for the shop location as Pateman’s previous experience had informed him that many customers in Bognor would travel to nearby towns to purchase remanufactured and refilled cartridges.
“There’s a really good population, it’s a really nice town.”
Pateman noted that he was “shocked to read” that a new Cartridge World store is due to open in the region in September but remarked that “it’s very good for the consumer, because now they’ll have much more choice.”
However Pateman intend to secure his position in the market on customer service, remarking: “I’m competing on better pricing with the same quality as our competitors. I’ll be trying to start competing with online sales too: people are really trying to save money and I can be competitive with pricing as I have no franchise fees.
“£30,000 ($47,116/€38,149) plus VAT, that could mean a lot of advertising or even new staff. Whereas with me, the focus is on customer service […] If anyone has a problem, we can sort it out quick and make sure they’re happy.”
World of Inks is located on York Road and will be staffed by Richard Pateman and cousin Lucas.
