OEM uses recycled steel sheets to manufacture new series of MFPs sustainably.
The Ricoh MP 6002, MP 7502 and MP 9002 series of office MFPs are made from recycled steel sheets developed by Ricoh Company Ltd. and Tokyo Steel Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and manufactured entirely from scrap using electric furnaces. However, the steel sheets still display the mechanical properties of original steel sheets, including appealing surface characteristics, formability, workability and conductivity.
Ike Kakegawa, Vice President, Environmental Sustainability and Product Health/Safety/Accessibility, Ricoh Americas Corporation commented: “Our new 100-percent recycled steel from scrap is one of Ricoh’s principal initiatives aimed at reducing the additional use of resources by 25 percent by fiscal 2020 and by 87.5 percent by 2050 from the 2007 baseline. It also reclaims an already-used resource and adds value to it for new applications. Japan has a surplus of this resource and ships it overseas.”
The printers offer print speeds of 60, 75 and 90 pages per minute, have copying, scanning, faxing and distribution capabilities and can “seamlessly interface with the Web, cloud services and a wide range of applications that help improve efficiency and productivity”.
To continue with the environmentally friendly theme, the printers also feature an eco-friendly indicator which shows “Total Print Pages”, “Paper Saving Ratio (%)” and “Duplex and Combined Print Ratio (%)”, enabling users to monitor the amount of resources they use.
In order to keep protect confidential documents, security features such as HDD encryption and data overwrite can be implemented. Users can also benefit from the flexibility of being able to print from mobile devices, USB memory or SD cards.
The MFPs are available now, with prices ranging from $20,000 (€16,000) for the MP 6002 to $39,000 (€31,000) for the MP 9002SP.
The Recycler reported in July of the printers’ potential release after Ricoh began its partnership with Tokyo Steel Manufacturing Co. Ltd.
