Retailer’s Jeff Bertolucci praises refill experience at online store Costco.

Action-Intell reports that Jeff Bertolucci’s praise of cartridge refilling, featured in an article on PCWorld’s website,  is “good press” for the refilling industry, with Bertolucci describing his experience with Costco as his “best experience yet”. Bertolucci has previously tested InkTec’s do-it-yourself home refill kit.

In his article, Bertolucci details his experience of purchasing a refilled HP 60 ink cartridge, listing the low cost of refills, experienced and knowledgeable refilling staff, an “informative and painless” website, the efficiency of getting cartridges refilled within an hour and the cartridges having a better yield than that of the OEM cartridges as positive aspects of the procedure.

However, Bertolucci points out a few negatives, namely that dialog boxes appeared once the printer recognised that the product was non-OEM, the annual membership fee of Costco and poorer print quality compared to OEM cartridges, although he described the quality as “adequate for everyday use.”

Writing of his experiences testing alternative printer cartridges, Bertolucci stated: “Costco’s cartridge-refill service is my favorite option so far. The do-it-yourself refill kit that I tested offered the best cost per page and output quality, but entailed the most hassle. When I tried Office Depot remanufactured cartridges, they provided paltry savings and underwhelming output quality. The Costco ink’s output quality was also not quite as good as HP’s, but the refilling was so easy and so cheap that for me the trade-off was worthwhile.”
