Not National No-Print Day celebrated

Oct 24, 2012

The Digital Nirvana speaks on the values of the print industry on Toshiba’s abandoned printing holiday.

With 24 October being Toshiba’s abandoned National No-Print Day, in which the OEM previously encouraged individuals and companies to cease printing for the day in a failed bid to raise environmental awareness, Heidi Tolliver-Walker of the Digital Nirvana has written on the value of the print industry and what it can do to prevent misconceptions.

Tolliver-Walker encourages individuals to be more vocal with regards to the value of print, noting that output from themselves is more profitable than relying on others: “Not relying on coalitions that put together print-supporting websites […] engaging their customers in dialogue. I would venture to say that marketers hear more print-bashing from e-media proponents than they heat about the value of print from their print service providers.”

Toshiba’s National No-Print Day received a torrent of negative attention, with environmental group Two Sides accusing the OEM of greenwashing and an active backlash of Twitter attention via the hashtag #noprintday culminated in the cancellation of the event.
