The Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa begins its first coordinated e-waste collection drive on 1 November.
A country-wide e-waste 
collection drive will begin as of 1 November, spearheaded by the Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa in (IWMSA) in conjunction with a number of established local e-waste handlers to collect notable e-waste items including printer cartridges and mobile phones, reports Waste Management World.
Confirmed locations participating in the collection drive include Central Square Pinelands in Cape Town, the Pavilion in Durban, the Liberty Midlands Mall in Pietermaritzburg among others.
Deidre Nxumale-Freeman spoke on the drive, described as a “bid to provide collection solutions and to educate the public as to the importance of correctly disposing of this potentially extremely hazardous form of waste”.
E-waste collection co-ordinator Susanne Dittke added: “We must stress that any e-waste that is collected will be refurbished, repaired, reused or recycled where possible, and only safely disposed of if no other treatment options are available.”
The collection drive will begin on 1 November, and in Cape Town as of 3 November.
