Australian scandal company tricked customers into orders

An Australian company implicated in the printer cartridge scandal is accused of bullying and tricking customers into purchases.

The Australian has reported on an anonymous letter received by Public Sector Minister Michael O’Brien that alleged that one of the companies implicated in the printer cartridges for gifts scandal employed bullying tactics and trickery to force customers into orders.

O’Brien stated that the letter was accompanied by recorded conversations between representatives of the company, describing them as “intimidatory, predatory and deceptive” and continues: “It is inappropriate and unethical business behaviour for sales people to bully, badger, lie and offer inducements, as they appear to do in these instances.”

A spokesperson for the currently unnamed company stated they were “bamboozled” by the claims: “I don’t know what he’s talking about […] but all the things he alleged are wrong.”

The scandal, which saw government employees purchasing printer cartridges for more than three times the usual price in return for cash incentives and gifts, resulted in approximately A$1.2 million ($1.22 million/€974,000) being spent on cartridges by South Australian government departments and across healthcare and education facilities.
