Technogati discusses impact of counterfeit cartridges, noting disappointing results compared to high-quality compatibles.
Technology website Technogati has discussed the shortcomings of counterfeit cartridges, noted as “illicit cartridges which have been manufactured not by OEM manufacturers but carry the OEM logos and packaging to deceive unsuspicious customers”, including the possibility of causing lasting damage to printers.
The website notes that counterfeit cartridges lack the same print quality and consistent page yield as from quality compatible or OEM cartridges, in addition to causing damage to printers. This may have the knock-on effect of disrupting workflows and voiding hardware warranties.
OEMs have begun to address the threat of counterfeits, and Technogati celebrates the formation of the Imaging Supplies Coalition, established by a line of OEMs including HP, Canon, Brother, Lexmark and Toshiba among others. The coalition recently celebrated its 14th conference on combatting illegal activities in August.
A number of OEMs have also been prolific in coordinating with law officials to raid counterfeiters across the world. Brother aided the Anti-Economic Crimes Unit to arrest a trader operating in counterfeits in Dubai during May, and HP Malaysia aided the Enforcement Division in seizing approximately $566,000 in counterfeit toner and inkjet products during July.
