Silverbrook Research has been awarded a patent for its replaceable printhead cartridge, intended to allow the maintenance and replacement of the printhead cartridge in the event of ink nozzle failure.
The patent EP 2,237,960 B1 notes that “individual ink ejection nozzles may fail over time and eventually there are enough dead nozzles to cause artefacts in the printed image. Providing pagewidth printhead is a user removable cartridge allows the user to periodically replace the printhead and hence maintain the print quality without replacing the entire printer”.
The cartridge itself is described as an elongated cartridge body configured for user insertion and removal from the inkjet printer, the cartridge body having an elongated structure with a plurality of longitudinally extending channels.
Memjet recently discussed its intentions to be recognised as the “third way of printing” by placing its logo on devices to increase brand value.
