Construction will start in January on the centre in western Sydney.
ZDNet reports that the AU$20 million ($20,941,202/€16,123,259) distribution centre in Eastern Creek will see 100 staff relocated from the OEM’s existing centre in Frenchs Forest, also in Sydney. This relocation will take place in the second half of 2013, with the centre expected to be finished by that time.
The OEM notes that it has raised the money for the new centre over the past 10 years, but added that it could not disclose whether there would be any new jobs created by the development. The centre will house Ricoh’s warehouse, national contact centre, technical response centre and technical support department, and will also feature training facilities and a centralised service centre.
The building is going to be designed with a Green Star rating of five, with the aim of being environmentally sustainable, and Ricoh noted in turn that the centre “aims to drive more efficiencies into the company’s local operations”.
Ricoh Australia’s Managing Director Les Richardson stated: “The facilities will not only help us stand by our value proposition of delivery less cost, waste, complexity, and CO2, it offers opportunity for staff to train and work in a centre of excellence that provides career development and progression.”
