Alan Castro on entering remanufacturing

Newcomers encouraged to initially sell at cheapest price, states LaserCare Anglia CEO.

LaserCare Anglia CEO Alan Castro has added his thoughts on The Recycler’s Guide to Remanufacturing feature, as seen in issue 239 as a primer for people entering the industry. Following on from advice by Kleen Strike’s Laura Heywood,  InkCycle’s Brad Roderick, and Embatex’s Christian Wernhart, Castro noted the importance of a number of initiatives when starting your business.

“On the basis of that well-know phrase or say, “make your name first and your money later”, start selling at the lowest price you can afford, which means minimising your overheads: produce your cartridges at home, in the garage, or on the kitchen table etc. so you can control the quality. Your remanufactured products have to be at least as good as branded originals. Don’t buy them in. You don’t want to be paying someone else’s profit margin at the expense of your own.

“Market/sell as locally as possible to minimise delivery and customer servicing costs. Make the deliveries yourself so you keep control of product condition until it is received by the customer. Avoid carriers. Get to know your customers and keep your promises. It is much easier generating new and repeat business from existing customers than finding new ones.”
