30 SunChemical Performance Pigments employees made redundant after Kentucky plant is forced to close.
WCHS reports that an ink plant in Wurtland, Kentucky is to close after more than 20 years of being in business, with Wurtland mayor Donna Hayes blaming the poor economy for the closure.
30 people will be out of work as a result of the SunChemical Performance Pigments plant’s closure, with some of the employees continuing to work at the plant “for four to six weeks to help clean and close the plant”. Hayes commented that “it affects us all and the families, some of these people live in Wurtland. They’re already wondering where they’re going to find another job”.
However, City Commissioner Connie Crum expressed optimism for the newly redundant workers, believing that community leaders will help to create new jobs: “Our Judge Executive works really hard to bring in new people. I assume he’ll get it right on this and see what he can bring in the area.”
