Thousands of counterfeit cartridges seized in UAE

AjmanBrother works with Dubai and Ajman authorities in raid against Brother toner cartridge counterfeiters.

The Gulf Today reports on the raid, which resulted in the seizure of over 6,200 counterfeit Brother toner cartridges “and other consumables” from a warehouse in Ajman and the arrest of a Dubai trader who was said to have supplied the products to other traders across the UAE.

According to the article, Brother became aware of counterfeit activity by traders in Dubai after receiving a tip-off and informed authorities in the UAE, which then performed raids against a number of companies who claimed that the seized products were supplied by another Dubai trader at the Ajman warehouse. It was then that the warehouse was raided by police and the responsible trader arrested.

The action by police was deemed by Brother to be “a victory in the campaign against the proliferation of counterfeit products in the UAE”.

This is one of many counterfeiting cases to take place in the UAE, with HP seizing over 30,000 counterfeit printing supplies in August last year following three co-ordinated raids in Dubai, and the number of confiscated products in the region exceeding two million since 2011. However, police in Dubai have asserted that they are “committed to eliminating counterfeit goods and enhancing Dubai’s reputation as one of the best places to do business in the region”.
