Store in Crewe believed to have been set on fire deliberately following spate of arson attacks in town.
Crewe Guardian reports that four fire engines had to be called to a Cartridge World store in Crewe after it was believed to have been the target of an arson attack, with the fire breaking out at 3am on 28 August, starting in a bin compound behind the store.
The fire spread to the ground floor of the store, with a Cartridge World spokesman confirming that it had caused damage to “the toner room, storage area and the shop” and that the store is closed as a result. “We are working with the police and fire service in their investigation,” he added.
Six firefighters extinguished the flames using three jets and an industrial fan was used to disperse the smoke so that the building could be searched. While it was reported that people were trapped in the flats above the shop, the article states that “everyone was accounted for at the scene and the gas and electricity supply was isolated”.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “We are treating it as suspicious – it’s malicious ignition.”
There have reportedly been further arson attacks in the town recently, including one other on the same street as the cartridge World store, with the majority being started behind buildings on wheelie bins.
