The printers are part of its S-series of wide-format devices.
Wide Format Online reported on the release of the 44-inch imagePROGRAF 8400s and the 24-inch 6400S, which will both reportedly offer “enhanced print management and colour control capabilities”.
The devices are aimed at graphic arts providers, due to their abilities in terms of “colour consistency”, colour management and control, with an “enhanced colour calibration system” featured in both machines. The 6400S in particular features a spectrophotometer that is able to ensure colour consistency in “an entire fleet” of Canon’s own printers “across multiple office locations and environments”, and are both “high volume” and “reliable” for print providers and in-plant operations that have “frequent, large-quantity” requests from clients.
Each machine has a multi-sensor for colour that utilises a three-colour LED, with a colour calibration management console feature offering the ability to have “remote functionality and scheduled colour check[s]” on other machines in the same fleet from a single PC. These features can help “streamline” print jobs as well as “ensure resources are used efficiently”, and a high-capacity ink system allows for 300 millilitre tanks for the 6400S and 330 or 700 millilitre tanks for the 8400s, with ink able to be replaced while prints are in progress.
Sam Yoshida, Vice President and General Manager of Marketing, Business Imaging Solutions Group at Canon USA, stated: “The colour calibration capabilities of our newest imagePROGRAF models arm providers with an advantage in today’s highly competitive production printing market.
“These machines are designed to excel in demanding industry segments, and we are confident that our customers will be impressed with their efficient, accurate and consistent management of high-volume print jobs enabled by the calibration capabilities and print management features included in these models.”
