The OEMs are donating funds to relief efforts after the 7.1-magnitude earthquake last week.
Epson and Canon have both pledged their support to earthquake relief efforts on the Filipino island of Bohol, which experienced a huge earthquake last Tuesday that has so far claimed 183 lives, with 583 injured and 13 missing. 8,500 homes are said to have been destroyed and more than 370,000 people were forced to leave their homes for their own safety.
Epson stated that it “wishes to extend its sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives, and hopes for the speedy recovery of the areas damaged by the disaster”, and donated Php 1 million ($23,100/€16,933) to relief efforts through the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), a local non-profit organisation. Epson employees based in the region are planning in turn to help distribute relief goods.
Canon in turn noted that it “extend[s] [its] heartfelt condolences to all those affected”, adding that “while we realise the road to recovery will be challenging and time-consuming, we hope that the region will soon be able to begin the rebuilding and healing process”. The OEM also pledged a donation through the Philippine Red Cross of Php 1.3 million ($30,100/€22,013) to relief efforts.
