TechRadar reported on the two new machines, which were introduced at the CeBIT event in Hannover, Germany, and which both feature near-field communication (NFC) technology, allowing for quick printing from mobile devices by simply touching the device to the printer.

The colour Xpress C1860 and monochrome M2885 are targeted at the SMB market, which the site notes is “highly coveted” by manufacturers, with Samsung stating its belief that the market “accounts for more than 60 percent of the entire business printing sector”. The OEM is reportedly planning to focus its Printing Solutions Business on the SMB market throughout 2014 as a result.

In terms of the devices’ features, both are available in single-function or MFP models, and are both A4 only, with the C1860 featuring a print speed of 18ppm in colour and 28ppm in monochrome, whilst the M2885 features the same monochrome printing speed. Both machines use Samsung’s “image enhancement technology” called Rendering Engine for Clean Page (ReCP) and polymerised toner for “better colours”.

Samsung noted in turn that the NFC technology allows SMBs “without a dedicated IT helpdesk to monitor their devices more easily simply by touching the printer’s NFC receiver”, and it added that its Mobile Print application has “been updated to offer NFC capabilities and is already available for Android and iOS”. The machines will be available in April but prices have not yet been announced.
