The jobs are involved with the OEM’s Printing and Personal Systems Group.
Biz Journals reported on the cuts, to be made at HP’s site in Roseville near Sacramento, California, with the OEM’s 250 employees in its Printing and Personal Systems Group at the site being offered positions in the division at other HP bases in the USA, though it “declined to say what other locations would be available”.
The cuts are said to be a consequence of the decline in computer and printer sales that HP has experienced in the last few years, with the formation of the Printing and Personal Systems Group a response to the decline. The cuts in Roseville are around 10 percent of the OEM’s workforce at the site, which has been owned by HP since 1979, and which had a peak of 6,000 employees in 2001.
HP’s press release about the job cuts read: “As part of HP’s strategy to foster better work environments and closer collaboration for employees, PPS will be relocating certain positions to different, existing HP locations. Personal Systems net revenue declined due to the contraction in the overall PC market as a result of a customer shift, particularly consumers, to tablet products.
“Printing net revenue declined due to unfavourable currency impacts, particularly the euro, and declines in supplies and commercial printers.”
