Canon announced that it had filed the patent infringement suit against Aster Technology Holland B.V. for infringing Canon’s European patent 2 087 407 in the Netherlands, which pertains to cartridges used in HP machines.

The case refers to the “importation, offer and sale of certain toner cartridges for use in various models of Hewlett-Packard laser beam printers”, with the OEM seeking “injunctive relief and damages” against Aster.

Canon stated of the case: “Throughout the development, sales and marketing process, Canon respects the intellectual property rights of other companies and individuals and expects others to do the same. Canon remains committed to taking legal action against anyone who does not respect Canon’s intellectual property rights.”

Canon is currently engaged in an IP case in the USA against 18 aftermarket companies, and the case in the Netherlands follows Samsung’s court battle with toner dealers in the country, against three of which it saw victory in January earlier this year.
