UK-based franking machine cartridge remanufacturer announces it has supplied a mail and parcel X-Ray security screening device to Nationwide.
The company announced that the Astrophysics XIS 6040 conveyor X-Ray screening device has been supplied into “one of Nationwide’s flagship processing centres” in Swindon and will primarily be used for screening incoming mail, with the centre receiving around 20,000 items of mail per day.
Prior to the arrangement between Nationwide and Totalpost, the bank had been using a “cabinet-style security screener”, with Totalpost explaining that the new X-Ray screening device “enable[s] operators to see more clearly the contents of incoming mail” and has “increased screening efficiency” due to its conveyor design.
James Carter, Operations Team Manager at Nationwide, said: “The imagery of the screened items is far clearer than our previous machine, this gives staff peace of mind when dealing with large volumes of mail.”
The X-Ray screener is also being used at the centre to screen paperwork for metal before putting items through the processing team’s scanning equipment. This was previously done by hand and increases the longevity of the scanning equipment.
David Hymers, Managing Director of Totalpost, commented: “We are seeing an increase in the use of X-Ray security screening of incoming mail in corporate mailrooms. We provide a wide variety of cabinet and conveyor X-Ray security screening equipment that is ideal for use in corporate settings.”
The Recycler reported last year (http://www.therecycler.com/posts/totalpost-wins-home-officeuk-border-force-security-screening-contract/) that Totalpost won a contract to supply the UK Home Office/Border Force with its X-Ray security screening devices over four years; with the company also winning a number of awards for its business expansion including the Queens Award for Enterprise and International Trade.
